Answer trust questions before the form
Use the organisation’s recognisable legal or trading identity and make its official website, contact details and purpose easy to verify. Donors can use the ACNC Charity Register to check registered charities. Do not imply registration, deductible-gift status or an affiliation that does not apply.
Explain the donation type, currency, frequency and any fees in plain language. If a gift is restricted to a particular program, describe that accurately. Keep privacy and payment information close to the action rather than expecting donors to search for it.
Remove friction without removing informed choice
Ask only for information needed for the payment, receipt and genuinely intended follow-up. Make recurring giving an explicit choice with clear frequency and cancellation information. Ensure errors identify the field and preserve valid entries.
Test keyboard navigation, mobile layouts and confirmation states. After payment, show what happened, when a receipt will arrive and how to get help. A confirmation page is also the right place to explain any separate workplace-match process without pretending it has already been completed.
- Show verifiable organisation and contact details.
- Explain amount, frequency, currency and restrictions.
- Make recurring terms and cancellation clear.
- Minimise fields and preserve entries after errors.
- Confirm payment, receipt and support steps.
Common questions
Does every Australian charity offer tax-deductible gifts?
No. Registration and deductible gift recipient status are different questions; verify the organisation’s specific status.
Is a shorter form always better?
Useful forms are clear and proportionate. Removing necessary disclosure or consent is not good optimisation.
